About Me

My name is John. It is important for me to tell you a little bit about myself if you are going to use my services. My journey, the long road to becoming a proficient editor and proofreader started when I was at university, where I read English Literature. I first studied for my bachelor's degree, then my Master's degree after that. During my very first year at university, and even at college, in fact, I wrote articles for the student magazine but towards the end of my first year, I began to edit the culture section and at the beginning of my third year I edited the entire magazine. So before graduating with my Bachelor's degree I already had worked, to some degree at least, as an editor, which was invaluable experience of course.

I did not imagine I would have gained employment after I graduated, but I did, as a book reviewer, working freelance, which gave me a lot more freedom, I began to review other items associated with the arts, such as film, music and theatre. I soon gained work as a journalist after that, writing up all sorts of political content as I was doing the freelancing in the evenings. at age 25, I became a proofreader for the first time, which was only temporary work but paid extremely well. After working as a proofreader and editor, I found this was my dream job. I gained invaluable editorial experience and edited content for local publications in manchester, later in London and in Burton-upon-Trent in Derbyshire.

In my thirties, I began to create and design websites and later edit and create content for my own website. My website, however, still is online, and I have received nothing but plaudits from the design of the website, which I spent many weeks on, but even now, I believe is simple enough; it is the content that is important. Before I began to work as a freelance proofreader and copyeditor I began to write about some of the people I knew, some experiences I had, in the form of short stories, and have now written 250 of them, that later developed into writing manuscripts, eleven in all, which I have been offered contracts for but have turned them down as I have not been happy with the terms and conditions.  I am now 42-years-old and currently have two websites; this one and a literary review website I created five years ago. I offer services for all types of editorial work, including proofreading and copywriting.
